Hi guys ,

I am new to piston heads mainly because I have a problem with the car I have just bought . Its a very polo match edition 1.2 63 reg . We have had the car 2 weeks now and there seems to be loads of issues.

The engine warning light has appeared
The tire pressure light has appeared
The electronic stability light has appeared .
These appeared suddenly and all at once , they have been present for a week now .
Today I had to drop down to second gear on a fast moving 40 mph hill , it seemed there was no power!! Also the car seems to be going through fuel for fun, in have never had a car less efficient then this !!

Are these problems related? What should I do ? I've only had the car for a short time .

Seems a bit strange they all appeared at the same time, as the tyre pressure monitoring has nothing to do with the engine management. Have you reset the tyre pressures?

Probably something to do with a faulty computer, you will need to get it scanned though. Did you buy private or from a dealer?

It could be a battery related issue, a battery capable of starting the car doesn't indicate a healthy battery/charging system , a drop in voltage can lead to all sorts of warning lights appearing. The poor running is likely due to the engine ECU running in a "protected" state until it is reset.

Ideally you need to get the car connected to a diagnostic device in order to obtain the error codes. With that information you are far more likely to fix any issues.

If you bought it from a dealer/trader type then take it back and give them the opportunity to examine the car and with your input decide on a course of action.

If you bought it privately it is time to take the car to a trusted garage/ VW dealer/ VW Specialist

Is it a 1.2Tsi engined one? If so it'll probably be a HT lead. They misfire then throw all sorts of warning lights on the dash

Hi, welcome to PH!

You missed out the most important bit - if you bought it from a dealer it shouldn't be your problem - just take it to them to get it fixed. smile

Which part of the world are you in Ricky?

Lots of people on here with OBD scanners who could read the codes off for you - so you could see what the issues are.
