Went to have a look at a Golf GTI with some highish mileage on it.

Condition seems seems very good and the engine pulls very well. The interior shows little wear, indicating motorway type mileage. Service history is complete except not service in 2017 but it was done within 10,000 miles from the previous one.

So the question to you, is it worth a punt, the price is under £9k? Are there any problems to look out for?

Appreciate any advice you can give.

I picked up my MK6 GTi several weeks ago on about 95000 miles, just gone past 98000 and has been a pleaseure to own so far.

If you do go ahead then make sure you get somewhere to check that the timing chain tensioner has been replaced as this is a common issue with cars that have the old style tensioner. Once fitted with a new one your engine will be failure proof with regards to that as they changed the part.

They're a great car and even though I change my car every 3-4 months or so I have no plans to change this one any time soon. It really is bloody lovely!

Brilliant, thanks for that. It’ll not get used all the time but good to know they are reliable.

I wouldn't worry about that sort of mileage - miles are just a number - look at the rest of the car for a better view of it's condition. The one you viewed sounds like it's a nice example.

To put miles in perspective - would you prefer a 5 year old car that's done 50k around a city or a 125k motorway car? Assuming both serviced on time I'd take the 125k car everyday.

As mentioned above, the one you have described sounds to be good and the service history should be the deciding factor which it seems this one is good.
If it is a Tornado red car double check for colour matching, mione is red but the paint is very good.
I'm sure it should give you some trouble free miles and fun.
Let us know how you get on with it if you decide to go ahead with one.
With regards to price, mine is a 59 plate car that had done 95000 and was advertised for £9000. Managed to get it off the dealer for £8500 so yours should be a fair price if it is from a dealer.
You can check my readers car thread for mine by going through my profile, I have done a couple bits to it and will be looking to update it further in the near future.
