Posting on behalf of my Dad. He has a new Karoq and had a strange thing happen whilst driving it last week. Was driving along the main road, school zone so 20mph and a motorbike came past about 60mph. Was a sports bike of some type, very loud. Anyway, as it went past, the Karoq cut out and came to a sudden stop. Luckily, no-one was behind him so he re-started the car and drove on. Car has been fine since then.
He's not phoned the dealer yet, i said i'd ask if anyone else had something like this happen to theirs.

Same safety system at the Tiguan which is well documented

Is he a left foot braker?

Car is a manual and he does not left foot brake. Do you think the bike passing so close has caused the emergency brake assist? just read up on the Tiguan and it seems that it can be adjusted in the settings. might have to pop round and see what it is set at.

Yup, sounds like emergency brake assist, had a similar thing in my Mk7 Golf once. And obviously it's cut out, because it's a manual wink

Thanks for the replies. Must be on the highest setting. Will see how easy it is to change.

I didn't think the EBA had any sensitivity adjustment. ACC has different settings but not EBA to my knowledge.

Ive got an Audi with the Pre Sense thing. Id imagine its similar in the VW There are several settings ranging from Early to Late hidden away in the menus. On the "Im gonna scare the $hit out of the driver whenever I can " settings its dangerous.

Following a push bike it went off several times, just the alarm, before eventually it applied the brakes. I have a manual, so once the car stopped I lurched forward and stalled. In the middle of a fast road with a queue behind me. I wasn't that close to the push bike but simply sat behind it as we went up a hill waiting before I could pass it once we went over the brow of the hill.

Its also set the alert on the dash as I approached a bridge support. However, it has also saved me several times. Kid running out behind a bus and a car doing an emergency stop before turning left without indicating. I would check the settings and turn the dial down a bit but don't depend on it. Make sure all the sensors are clean.

On the Tiguan, the AEB is very obvious - a big red indicator on the dash, ‘peeeeep’ sound, plus sometimes it pretensions the seatbelts and closes the windows(!). Did any of that happen?

Assuming Karoq has same system - if it brakes and stalls it tells you to restart engine manually, but it doesn’t go dead at all.

Will ask/check all the above comments. He is in his 70's now but a very competent driver. Never goes over the speed limit and always sticks to 20mph where signed ( to the annoyance of others behind ).
