Hi

Anyone got any experience of this ? Have a 12 plate S4 avant, had for last 5 years, and in last 6 months I have had issues with the engine coolant.

One day a red warning popped up on dash to say 'switch off engine and check coolant'. Did that and it was very very low so bought some more and topped up. Was ok for a month or so but then same again so topped up again. Did the same again so obviously a leak or something but car was going in for service so left it to an Audi main dealer. They looked at it and said they couldn't find any type of leak and all looked fine.

Anyway, of course still happening and now seems quicker than ever. Topped up on Tuesday and today came back to car in the train station car park and noticed a wet patch under my car. Now dont know if it is from my car or someone else's has leaked and run down etc but coolant is low again - so 2 and 2 equals 4 I think !

Any ideas ? Common problem. Be-grudge giving to Audi again for them to charge me loads just to look at it but guess that is my only option (or an independant - am in Essex area if anyone has recommendations !)

Thanks all.

This is an extremely common issue with the V6 TFSI engine. Lawsuit ongoing in the US but nothing here as few people own these engines (very common engine in the US with their cheap 'gas').

The supercharger and other ancillaries are packed into the 'V' of the engine and thus causes the underlying thermostat to have issues due to a lack of heat dissipation. Thermostat fails and can't understand the temperature of the engine, leading to it overheating and coolant leaking. Thermostat replacement from Audi was £100 for parts and £600 (£120 per hour) for labour. Took two weeks for us as winter meant many cars weren't working well.
