Audi C6 A6 iPod Adapter

Hi, I’ve just purchased a 2006 C6 Allroad. It appears to have an iPod adapter retrofitted in the glovebox (pictured below). I’ve established that the up button charges the iPod (so the connection is live from the usb), but I can’t get the iPod to play music via the car (or get the car to talk to the iPod). Can anyone help? I’ve no idea what the name of the adapter is. I’m guessing it works of the CD button, but it just shows 6 empty slots and no obvious alternative usb option. Many thanks in advance. That's a Dension Gateway 500, the manual is still on their website.

From memory its functions are accessed via CDs 7-12 on the changer menu.
