Also post this in vag section, Hi all got a few questions sorry if you've had these 1000's of times already did a search but no answers to what I'm trying to answer.. it's a 2001 VW bug.. 1) the ESP light has come on after changing the abs sensors, it wasn't on before hand after looking on eBay at sensors ( the replacement 1's were already new in the glove box ) I've noticed although looking the same some state they don't fit the bug is it possible the abs will register them connected but not the ESP ? I've checked all the wires /fuses ( just relays to check ) and the battery is good I've done a done the diagnosis plug up it states voltage reference but not high or low as mentioned on the vcds website ? 2) the air bag has been switched off ( buy dealership l presume ) as l had the dash apart and connected a wire back on but still says it's switched off but the air bag light flashes a few times then goes off would it be a case of a dealership turning it back on or is there more than 1 wire that I may have not seen as l didn't remove the air bag. Thanks for any info

VW electrics are terrible. If your near Sheffield I know a guy who specialises in VW electrics.

Funnily enough my 2nd wife moved over to vag after we divorced. I, too, had mixed feelings about this.

Well I did suggest she try some vag while we were together and she was dead set against the idea. Now you can't get here away from going under a beetle bonnet. Strange how things pan out.

Love it LOL, naa my partner is ok for being able to tell if something sounds wrong but she wouldn't have a clue about what to do, I've tried a test run of turning the steering wheel left to right a few times n then drive to let it all register again properly but it still don't wanna play ball, it didn't affect the breaking it didn't run only in safe mode it drove perfectly normal l could even floor it without any problems.. why did they have to add this stupid stuff that's not actually needed ?

nono You're all bad people, and not helping the OP here at all.

OP, pt the original wheel speed sensors back on - why did you change them in the first place?. No chance of ESP light coming on without a fault in the ABS, so that's a red herring.
If you're able to,fault codes will help.

A bit banter is a good thing at least you know l ain't a misserable git 😂 the reason for changing them was the abs light was on but not the ESP light ( supposedly it had been done but the light not taken off ) all 4 were not in very good condition and as l found the new 1's in the glove box l just decided to change all 4 none wanted to come out so carefully tapped them out, lve ran a snap on scanner which l think has located which 1 is causing the problem. as seen in the picture it separated the passenger rear from the other 3..
