What £5-6k hatchback, 200 miles a week.
Discussion
Hi just after some advice please, I am after a cheap daily to run alongside an E92 M3 which I plan to use during nice weather (probably a summer car, it'll be hardly used during winter), basically to cover a 20 mile trip to work. 15 miles down the A3 with a short trip down a back road.
I'll also serve as a car to go to customer sites with, but dont see it being a frequent thing.
I am not sure I should run a diesel doing so few miles, potentially it'll do 6k miles a year. So after considering a 1.2 TDI Polo, Ibiza FR 140 and others, and reading reports of the small VAG petrol engines having poor fuel economy I am a little stuck on what to consider.
Right now I am at a 1.0L VW Up! but they are extremely basic cars and have a few complaints on forums about noises.
Anything else VAG I could consider?
thanks!

The Up is a competent car but really at home doing short urban runs in a city. Higher speed NVH and comfort aren't its strong points
For £6k you'd just about get into the latest shape Fabia in 1.2 TSI form, which offers a decent blend of economy and performance. The 1.0 MPI engine from the Up is offered too but will struggle with the extra weight. Diesels aren't really worth bothering with.
This one has done a few miles but looks tidy and a decent spec - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Or to be exactly in budget this DSG version looks competitively priced - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
