Hi
Looking at getting an S1 for the wife. We have an A1 tfsi which is a great car. Theres a few for sale all round the country, which due to commitments and stuff would probably mean me shooting off on my own and part ex ing then coming back. Is there anyone around the lancs area who wouldn't mind giving her a ride in an S1 just to make certain before i go bite the bullet. Obliviously re reimburse fuel costs and your time etc.
Thanks in anticipation, or just if you can gives views on S1 ownership.

I literally just picked mine up this morning(!)
If you get it without all the extra Quattro pack, then it's actually quite inconspicuous and you'd only pick it out of the A1 S-Line because of the badges and the exhaust tip count. Which is what I've done as I don't like to be flashy.
The engine is a hoot - you can drive it in low revs and you wouldn't notice much difference again to the A1, but it's when you hold off changing gear that it comes into life and makes a great noise and a grin. Cornered great on some B-Roads this morning with the 4wd and the B&O speakers are an option worth ticking. Wouldn't bother with the flat bottom steering wheel as the standard wheel comes with leather and S1 graphics on anyway.
If you're buying too, the residuals should be good as they're fairly rare - I've only seen 3 others within 100 miles of where I live which is pretty good given I'm in VAG/German car land in Bournemouth/Poole area.
When you do test one, make sure you go to a quieter road and accelerate from 35mph in 6th to check for clutch slip (the revs won't go up smoothly and will jump)- and also avoid doing lots of race starts at the lights - the clutches on these go easy if you go around drag racing.
If you want something lairy and quirky - get a JCW, if you want something more subtle but refined then get the S1, and if you want to follow the crowd but have a bit more space in the back get a Golf GTi.
