Newish car (66 plate) warranty void a possibility?
Discussion
Hi guys, so I have recently purchased a gti 66 plate, the service history shows one stamp from a totally independent garage, dated December 2017.. I don't know why on earth the previous owner would get it serviced other than VW considering the car has two free VW service plans of which I have booked for a service on Monday..
Anyway on to the point of VW potentially voiding warranty, is this a possibility because the car has not been in the VW network for servicing. The warranty runs out 2019 SEP..
According to the handbook the following was carried out at 12000 miles
Oil change sevice
Inspection
With Oil Change
Long Life Engine Oil Used
Check of headlight settings
Dust and pollen filter insert
"As a car owner, you have the right to take your car to any licenced garage or mechanic for servicing, but you must ensure that the servicing is carried out exactly as per the manufacturer’s servicing schedule. This means servicing must be undertaken on time and must use any genuine parts or lubricants specified by the manufacturer"
Just finding out now if the first servicing was done at the right time....

Thank you, seems like I am ok according to this, previous owner did say it was used as a motorway commute car with very little stop start journeys. said:
The Flexible Service is recommended for vehicles with daily mileage of more than 25 miles where the vehicle
is driven regularly mainly on longer distance journeys. The vehicle is driven mainly at a constant speed with
minimum vehicle and engine loading, minimal towing and driven in an economical manner. With the Flexible
Service the vehicle can cover anywhere between 10,0003
miles or 24 months
and a maximum of 20,0003
(whichever is soonest) between oil changes.
The service intervals for the Flexible Service are as follows:
• Oil change service – According to flexible service interval display (after 2 years at the latest).
• Inspection service2
– First after 2 years or 20,000 miles (30,000km), then every one year or
20,000 miles (30,000km), whichever is soonest
Just want to know that everything is above board, should the worse to happen, gearbox goes pop, engine or anything that is going to cost serious ££££ and to find it won't be covered due to the car not being service on time/right will be a bitter pill to swallow.is driven regularly mainly on longer distance journeys. I find it slightly insane that cars like this exist out there! I saw the same recently with a 16-plate TT which was missing service history and serviced outside of Audi, yet on checking the car it came with 2-free Audi services from new. Same story with a 65-plate 1-series which hadn't been serviced properly yet had a 5-year BMW service pack included when new. Craziness, don't know what these owners are thinking

What you'll find is there's less goodwill evident if you try and claim for something down the line from VW once the manufacturer warranty runs out, eg a gearbox going bang at 4 years old even if serviced to schedule you'll probably end up paying for unless you are able to successfully argue it's not fit for purpose.
I had an instrument cluster fail on my S5 (backlighting is LED and non-replaceable) and at about 5-6 years old I contributed 10% of the part cost and was fitted FOC. Was less than the excess on my warranty at the time, but ours had an impeccable Audi FSH. Taken it out of the network this year as the chances of any goodwill are out the window on age grounds really.
To void the warranty you'd need to really badly skip services or tune the car to the point it flags a marker in the ECU for over-torque to the point VW specifically black flags the car for any warranty claims - I'm aware of it happening on some Golf Rs and S3s in particular.

Exactly! I got too excited with this car and I stupidly!!! did not give it a deep look over, Stuff like a budget Tyre at the rear on a car of this status was not on, two dings on the passenger door, quarter panel fuel side badly repainted but I guess my fault for finding this all out after leaving the garage with the car.
I bought it at a price that is I guess 2k cheaper than similar specs currently available (it's fully loaded apart from reverse cam, Pretorias with the cup tyres but this car had been up for awhile, I guess had I made a fuss with this defects there and then and said I'm offering you 25 instead of 25.8k I think they would of still taken it.. Oh well

Unfortunately I won't be keeping this car beyond the end of the manufactures warranty unless good fortune comes about and I can keep it as I'm trying to get on the housing ladder, I will however extend the warranty before it expires as I'm sure this would a BIG selling point.I had an instrument cluster fail on my S5 (backlighting is LED and non-replaceable) and at about 5-6 years old I contributed 10% of the part cost and was fitted FOC. If you're worried about it get it serviced by VW now - it's only just two years old and on Longlife (like it or not) 2 years is normal.
Yep, it's been booked in tomorrow for a service with them. Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
