So,

anyone else going through it with VW's backlog times?

Ordered my Golf GTD back in May, told possibly September, but more than likely in time for the end of my current lease (August 8th)

Then had an email a week before collection of the current, telling me no build as yet so they'd extend my current car

Then last week an email saying build date would now be.......................January!

I bought a pre reg golf a couple of months back

The salesman at the time said that if i wanted to order it new it would be about a years wait.

Make of that what you will! (it was an R if that makes a differance)

Yep !

I ordered my Golf back in November and still haven't got it :/

The most frustrating part is that it was manufactured back in May. It then went to the port for a few weeks then went back to the factory for 'extra quality checks' but nobody could explain why. It's now in the UK and my wait is nearly over.

To be fair, VW have been very good. My order form said the car would be ready by April and that if that slipped I'd be eligible for a mobex loan car in early May. When I got to that point they contacted me to arrange getting me a pretty much brand new GTD so I've had free motoring for nearly 4 months (including their insurance). The dealership have been just as frustrated as I have been, the woman I'm dealing with said so many cars have been delayed that they no longer are able to offer the mobex cars so maybe I was lucky there.

I waited 9 months for my i3, didn't think I'd be having to wait longer for a Golf but there you go....

They stopped Mobex for new orders months ago.

We have a Tiguan so keep an eye on the relevant forum and there's people on there going absolutely mental.

Some have had their car on order for best part of a year and I haven't heard of anyone who's been told their car is already built - indeed now they're being told they'll get a model year 19 car so (in some cases) they have to choose a new colour, and the spec has changed, not always for the better.

At the moment VW have no Golf or Tiguan models WLTP certified.

Not a Golf, but I ordered an Up GTI at the end of February, with an estimated delivery date of 31st July. A few weeks after ordering I got a provisional build date of 20th August, which has gradually got later and later. It's currently sitting at week 45, week commencing 5th November, but unconfirmed. If things don't change I'll be looking at 10 months from order to delivery, however I've no confidence it won't slide further.

VW are a total mess at the moment and I'll be thinking very seriously before ever buying a car from them again. The way they have communicated their current woes has been completely inadequate, verging on insulting.

yeah, the Golf forum I've been reading whilst waiting for mine has quite a few folk who have lost the plot. It's obviously not a great situation but I find it weird how wound up and angry people can get about it, taking it really personally, falling out with the dealership and demanding all sorts of things. They'll probably get the car, look back on some of the things they said and feel a bit foolish.

Tbf there are plenty of cars you could buy instead of the golf.

I would not wait 10 months for my car - screw VW for that - the golf isn't that great (I drive a r estate) - any golf except the GTD / GTI / R to me aren't worth waiting for - nothing special - equally the build quality of my R estate i would not say is much better than the 6 year old astra I had before.

far better cars for the money imho.

Most of the madness that I’ve witnessed has came from people who are being seriously inconvenienced by having no real idea when their car will arrive, either because they are returning their current car, or are relying on a PX that is valid for an agreed length of time. I’ve no problem with my dealer, they can only give the information they have, and there is nothing to be gained from directing any anger or frustration at them. However I think all anyone expected is more transparency from VW about the cause of the delay. For instance I’ve been told that WLTP testing has resulted in massive bottlenecks, however the Up GTI was the first car to be tested and conform to the new rules, so why is that model delayed?

But as I think you’re alluding to, it’s very much a first world problem, albeit one VW could be handling far better.

In all the new cars I've bought for me, my wife and our daughters, I've never waited more than 3-4 weeks. The Tiguan we've got was at the dealer 8 days after we ordered it.

Going back a bit, I had many years of company cars including Audi and BMW, we weren't even allowed to order them until a month before our old one went back in case there were spare cars kicking around and they always came more or less on time.

Niche, performance, and comparatively low volume models are a low priority. All manufacturers need to prioritise their bread and butter volume vehicles before devoting time to those less important to revenue.

Just because one model is certified it doesn't neccesarily mean that VW can build 'just that one'. You may well find it needs a chassis line and a powertrain line each handling multiple configurations to be at full speed before they can actually assemble that model.

Got an email today from Select Car Leasing of "in stock offers" - one of the cars was the Golf GTD!

We had to wait 7 months for our Golf Cabrio, delivered in March ‘16. Utterly awful car and a warranty queen. VW’s are a bit cheapy crappy these days.

What made you think a Golf Cabrio wouldn’t be an utterly awful car? I didn’t even think VW we’re selling MK6 cars in 2016...

Is this pushing up the prices of used VWs at all? Particularly the nearly-new,. main dealer-level stock?

When we got our Tiguan 3yrs ago we needed it quickly so first thought was to look at nearly new - had to go back to 12mths old before they were cheaper than discounted new. I haven't looked at prices at the moment, but I've frequently seen comments in the same vein.
