2.0 PD140 engine info?

Afternoon all,
I am currently driving a mk2 outlander with a PD140 engine and being quite new to VAG engines, I wondered if anyone could offer some insight into the engines, I know there is a 170 version which some sources say are just a mapping difference and others suggest turbo/injectors are different? If they are different, are they a common upgrade to the PD140?
In regards to getting more power out, presumably the usual decat/remap? Being a common engine, are the plug in tuning boxes worthwhile? I don't fancy spending a fortune on it but currently it's a bit dire in the performance stakes and I just want a bit more punch before I start towing with it.
