I have a 2013 S3 Sportback which is coming up to 5yrs old (registered Dec-2013). My question is what is the recommended time/mileage for the cambelt and water pump to be changed? (I assume my car has a cambelt as opposed to a Chain?).

Car has done 35k miles and has only done 3-5k miles p.a. in my ownership over the past 2 years........so I'm wondering, given the low mileage, if the cambelt change is essential right now or can be put off till a later date?

Just looking for knowledgeable advice from fellow PHers..............as I get mixed advice from my local Main Dealers.

Chain, life of the engine.

Water pump (in theory) is as well although those water pumps are not immune to premature failure.

I had a 3.2 V6 A3, upon reaching a certain mileage Audi sent me a notification that the cambelt was due to be changed, luckily the person I spoke to at the dealer confirmed that it was, in fact, a cam chain engine and so would last the lifetime of the engine.

A year or so later the camchain failed and had to be replaced, funny old world...

Thanks for the replies. I was never 100% sure from my internet searches whether the 2013 S3 8v was cambelt or timing chain - so thank you Dr G for clarifying smile

Seems confusing, as the Audi website quotes a price to do the cambelt as part of its Fixed Price servicing when put my reg in. Audi quotes £649 for cam belt with water pump for the S3 Sportback 2.0 TFSI quattro 300 PS 6-speed.

8P S3 >13 uses an EA113 gen engine that does have a timing belt.

8V S3 13> uses EA888 with a timing chain.

...although you'd assume Audi's own systems would know that. I've no idea if the web ties into Erwin or is separate. Erwin is slow and unreliable so I wouldn't be completely surprised if it was unrelated for speed/efficiency.

Just to add to Dr G feedback - it may be worth changing Haldex oil & Gearbox oil (if manual) at that age & mileage if you plan to keep it.

FWIW mine is similar age & mileage & my waterpump failed for no apparent reason this summer - expensive to replace too. Oh yes and my aircon pump also failed later the same month, not acceptable at this age & mileage, its well serviced & looked after.

Not very impressed with build quality & part life every generation seems to get worse, I'm on my 5th now, this shouldn't be happening to a 'premium' brand, which is why i buy Audis as i keep them for a long time.
