My lads looking at on one of these around 2011 - 2012, are there any issues I need to be aware of ?

We had an 09 Ibiza 1.4 Sport. It was cheap to run but gutless and slow, 85bhp i think they had.

Only issue was a warm start issue. On warm days or when engine was warm it could take 6/7 attempts to start the car. N85 valve was the issue, picked up a new one and fitted in 10 mins. All sorted. Other than that no real issues although ours used to use a bit of coolant despite seeming reasonably happy. It did 97k before we sold it on.

We had one as a loaner for a month in between Leons from the local SEAT dealer.

The engine was awful. 'Gutless' is an under-exaggeration. It felt like a return to 1991 and driving my X reg 1.3 Escort.

If he really wants an Ibiza I think the 1.2 would be a much better choice.

We had same engine (80PS version) in a mk6 Golf. It was perfectly adequate. If you want more than that then I guess you'd be disappointed, but you have to adjust to the capabilities of whatever you're driving.

We had a 3cyl 1.2 Ibiza years ago - engine was horrible around town, but fine on the open road. I did drive a 1.4 as a courtesy car and it was far better.

Standard VAG thing is they seem to eat front consul (console?) bushes, but to be fair, SEAT did them on ours as goodwill at 4yrs 30K miles. Just had VW do same at 3yrs on wife's Tiguan.

I ran a 58-plate for 18 months and stuck about 25k miles on it during my Uni placement year. Seemed a solid enough motor, not the best engine but does the job. Mine suffered the warm start issue another poster has mentioned. Can't really remember much else noteworthy about it! Adequate is a good word to describe it...

Main thing to watch out for will be that the Cambelt has been change per the schedule, i.e. every 4-years/ 60k miles. It's the same 1.4 16v engine dating back to the Golf Mk4 days and used to be known for the belts snapping if they weren't changed on time

1.2 TSI yes, but not the 3-cylinder N/A 1.2. it's even slower!!
