Hi guys,

I’m thinking of getting a stage 1 remap on my 1.6 Golf. It’s currently on 103000 miles.
Does anyone have any experience with mapping a VA group car of this mileage and if it would be okay to so.

Thanks in advance
Tom

Hmm... not sure about remapping a high miles car. You run the risk of extra pressure on already worn parts i guess.

Keep it very well serviced - maybe every 8-9000 miles at worst.

100,000 miles is fine to map on imo. I'd highly recommend shark performance. They'd give you a safer map if you prefer one I'm sure.

There's an argument that would say the higher mileage, the better. Car isn't going to have any warranty & if it dies as a result, there's a reasonable chance of being worth two parts of fk all anyway, so you throw it away and start again.

Not sure I'd be bothering to chuck money at that kind of thing on a 1.6l Golf though TBH. Far better served accepting it for what it is/very much isn't & saving the cash for the next usually inherently better starting point.

If, given my lack of knowledge of VW engine codes, it drinks from the wrong pump, just don't.

You could make it almost as fast as a 2.0 TDI or just get a 2.0 TDI

When modding, start from the best standard car you can.

You'll probably be fine, particularly if those miles were on the open road rather than round town.

Modern diesels are complicated buggers and it tends to be things like injectors, EGR, DPF that give grief rather rather than conrods launching themselves out the side of the block anyway.

This.

No point spending money on a car for it only to end up with the same performance as a standard car elsewhere in the range, only with higher insurance costs and nagging doubts about mechanical longevity.
