Leon cambelt & waterpump
Discussion
Morning all.
My car is due a time based (not mileage) based cam belt and water pump replacement; I.e it's 5 years old now.
My question is; Seat want £529 for the combined replacement of the pair and I feel that this is a bit of overkill.
At 5 years old would you continue to use main dealer network or go to a local independent?
Car is a 2013 2.0 tdi fr.
Also I am based near Ashford kent should anyone know of any recommendations on independents?
Thanks in advance.

It wasn't long ago that VAG dealers of all marques regularly offered cambelt changes for £299 with water pump for another £50, but the dealer prices seem to have jumped up now.
Got ours (with waterpump) done at an indie - he used the VW kit so it's the same 2yr warranty, for about £350 (it was mixed in with a service and MOT too). Dealer had rung a couple of times but wouldn't budge from list price, then when I said I'd had it done they said they would have price matched.
I do notice that SEAT dealers offer a 5yr warranty on the job. Generally I think dealers are useless, but it's the one job on a car where I'd value the peace of mind of having the dealer behind me.
The SEAT £130 adder for the water pump seems very OTT - I'm sure it was routinely £50 in the past.

I know the location is no good for you but Central in Brum are a well regarded VAG indie and they're advertising cambelts for £299 so I'm surprised other indies aren't. https://www.centralaudivw.co.uk/services/cambelt-c...
Quick Google at other forums: http://www.midkenttechnical.co.uk/page_3359102.htm... - still not exactly convenient, but I have a feeling (based on Merc ownership) than indies in an area watch each others prices, and not with an eye to keeping them low!
