Polo stop/start stopped working
Discussion
The stop-start function has stopped working on my Polo Blue GT (2014). The symbol comes up on the display to confirm it is not functioning, the manual button for this function is all working OK, but the function is definitely not working as the display confirms (I am not a great lover of this function and always turn it off at the first opportunity). I have checked the handbook which gives minimal information except that if the battery is down it may not work, and the battery has always spun the engine over at good speed and it is an instant starter in all weather conditions; I first noticed the warning symbol during a decent 12 mile run on a dual carriageway. I have checked the fuses under the bonnet and they are all in good order, although I am not sure if this function is fused or indeed if there is a separate fuse located elsewhere. Anyone had this problem or can shed any light on what has gone wrong before I go to my expensive dealership in whom I have little faith due to past experience.
Many thanks.

Do you have access to a battery charger?
Just because the engine is turning over well / starts first time does not mean that the battery is operating at normal capacity. On BMW's for instance the first that you know about a battery running sub-par is a tendency to get odd warning messages being thrown.
Ideally run a full cycle with a battery conditioner and then try it again when you know it is running at a proper charge (or the conditioner will tell you the battery needs changing).
Halfords do a free battery health check and that's another option. I would certainly try to rule out a simple battery fault before going to a dealer as you will comfortably pay as much for a diagnostic as a new battery costs and that is the most likely fault.

As above, battery health also temperature and amount of electrical 'stuff' you have on may prevent it cutting in.
I've coded my Audi to remain off if switched off rather than on by default on startup so I rarely use it but I know it needs certain conditions for it to work.
Coincidentally my Wife was telling me that the stop/start on her Qashqai had stopped working for the last month or so but that everything else was just fine then, on Saturday morning I had to jump start it due to the battery being flat so it was definitely a sign of poor battery health as having recharged the battery it works again.
Check the battery first.

Well guys, I did the full cycle on the battery conditioner including the recond, the cycle was completed in less than six hours without problem; of course I was not watching it all the time but I am sure any problem would have been highlighted. Left it on all night to make sure, fired the car up and the symbol did not appear, moved the car around, still no symbol; thought the problem was cured! Decided to disable the stop/start, light duly lit up on the switch, operated switch again to enable stop/start, lo and behold stop/start symbol not available lights up.
My only thought now is that maybe the switch is faulty and not enabling the stop/start function.
I suspect I am in for an expensive trip to the dealer unless anyone has any other ideas. This is a nuisance as I do not like the function and always have it disabled, but I guess when it comes to selling the car there will be a big devaluation.
