I've come across an 04 VW Touareg that is almost so cheap I can't not buy it! Almost no miles on the thing.

What are the major things to worry about?

I don't think it has air suspension which is a shame.

What engine?

I have a 2003 V8. Best car I have ever owned, can’t sell it.

Hugely over-engineered and complex.

Check for damp in front foot wells. Blocked drain holes mean rainwater off the windscreen can end up collecting under the carpet here, eventually corroding a huge wiring loom. Problem is there is inches of sound-deadening foam so water can sit here undetected for years.

Other than that it’s usual 14 year old car stuff to check. It can hide abuse well so really check everything. Brakes and suspension take a pounding so check condition of those.

Needs to be used regularly or left on a battery conditioner - the multiple electrical systems don’t like low voltage.

Conventional steel springs instead of air ride is probably a bonus at that age - one less thing to worry about.

Lacking soul but a hugely competent and underrated vehicle best run by someone who is handy with spanners and won’t skimp on maintenance.

V8 engine. It's just cheap and looks like it'll be a great run around for the dog and new baby! I also don't mind getting the spanners out on occasion too.

Same as mine then. Audi 4.2 V8. Great family car.
