Golf MkV GTI engine/gearbox mounts
Discussion
When I start the car I can hear and feel the engine rocking slightly on the mounts and there's some drivetrain shunt in 1st and 2nd. I had the same on my first car, a Mk3 1.8 SE and it fixed the issue; same on a previous TVR S Series.
I don't expect it to be expensive as it shouldn't take long but was hoping for a steer on costs as I've already spent £1,200 addressing things since I bought the car earlier in December. Not that I'm complaining too much - it's all to keep a good car tip top.

Personally i think there is no need to go to aftermarket mounts, all of the aftermarket ones seem to aim towards everyone being a race car driver for the road, which from how I understand what I had read, just adds a butt load of vibrations to the car.
In my old diesel and in the R32, the stock mounts of that generation really are good for what they are. Just comes down to the position that you would be in now where they need to be replaced.
Do do all 3, there is the twin puck in the subframe, which doesn't require the subframe to be removed to replace them, but a garage should have the correct tool to be able to do the change in the car. The other two in the bay are very easy in and out jobs, the passanger side mount being the hardest as you need to take the battery out. Which isn't much more then undoing 5 bolts to take the battery and the casing that it sits in out.
For costs, a garage would charge 2 hours labour, i cannot see it taking more than that for a competent mechanic with the correct tool for the subframe mount, meaning that you don't need to take the subframe off and get the car realigned once it goes back on. Then it is just parts, think from memory, for the two engine bay ones and the two part subframe mounts, was 300 all in ish. So at most a 400-450 job for a garage to do.
Just depends if you have the right tool; this is the tool for reference, it isn't cheap, but does make doing the lower mount a really easy job!
