Picked up my first MK7 GTi (64 plate) a few weeks ago, love it! But it sometimes struggles to get the power down when accelerating from standstill/low gears, front wheels spin quite a lot. Heard it could be a haldex issue, just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of this?

Thanks

The GTI part might be the issue as in your lacking haldex

It can’t be Haldex as it hasn’t got Haldex as it’s only front wheel drive. It most likely because it’s putting a lot of power through the front wheels.

That or it’s on crap/worn tyres.

Does the fwd GTi have a haldex system?

200 odd bhp, pretty torquey, its cold and wet perhaps ?

Haldex is for the 4WD versions, GTI is front wheel drive, unless I am missing something.

GTI doesn't have Haldex.

You're probably finding cold weather + cold tyres = no grip = wheelspin.

Your car has a front dif an differential oil should be replaced every 3 years.

Showing my ignorance, few people I spoke to said that it could be the issue so thought I’d check. Least it’s soemthing I don’t have to worry about. Thanks everyone

Yeah definitely no Haldex on a GTI! Got much tread left on the tyres?

My 15-plate GTD used to wheelspin loads and struggle to put the power down, so what you're describing sounds normalish to me.

Yeah, tyres are brand new, tried on a dry road. I don’t really mind as long it’s not a larger issue

Brand new tyres sometimes have a coating that can mean. Rap grip but that goes after just a few miles.

What are the tyres? They ma6 be new but are they decent quality ones?

IF it is a performance pack version, the torque vectoring LSD is basically a haldex on the front axle and some people refer to it as such. The servicing of it is the same as for the haldex diff on AWD models.
It is probably just getting wheelspin (whether or not is is a PP version) on the cold, salty roads that we have currently.
What tyres are fitted. I know my pirelli P zero's rubber goes hard and grips little on cold days. Michelin PS4Ss seem to be a fair bit better in this regard.

If it's on Bridgestones that'll be the issue.

My old 7 GTI PP was supplied on Bridgestones and I binned them at 4000 miles. A set of MPS4s and it was like a different car.

Wheelspin is going to happen. They have dyno’d at 270+ lb ft standard.Even in the dry it will spin up in second from a first gear change if driven hard. 3rd in the wet. The cold weather/ greasy roads and a decent slug of torque is not going to favour a FWD car no matter if it has a trick diff.

What’s worse is the wheel hop when it does decide to break traction.

Yeah it’s the Performance pack so it’s got the LSD, it came with Pirelli P Zero’s. Like I said, only picked it up a few weeks ago so not had a chance to shops around for tyres
