I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can help!

After quite a bit of research I bought and installed an RCD330 plus in my 60 plate Scirocco. Everything I read before I bought it pointed towards an issue with battery drain on 2009 or earlier model VWs due to their earlier canbus being incompatible. Being a late 2010 I presumed that wouldn't be a problem... Wrong!

I had a flat battery this morning after having it installed for only 16 hours. AA confirmed the battery was flat, but after a charge it's producing good voltage and charging healthily from the alternator.

Do you think it could be a faulty unit? Or is it back to the CanBus issue!? frown

Canbus issue.

Easy way to check is charge battery and disconnect radio / pull fuse.

Or you can do this :

Sounds like a faulty unit, I've never heard of battery drain on a Scirocco before as they've always had the newer CAN Gateway from day 1.

Is your 60 plate scirocco a white dot or red dot cluster?
I think the red dot ones that were boggo spec had older modules.

60 plate should be white dot - 59 plate area cars was the changeover

Yeah my MFD has a white display. I think that's what you meant, Googling red dot or white dot cluster just brought up diseases!

Canbus module can be checked easily enough via VCDS, or looking at the box (but it's a bit fiddly).

Easy enough to change out though.

I would question the accuracy of some of the advice in this thread. There is no way this car would've left the factory with a Can Gateway prone to battery drain as it's far too new for that. There is something else at play here, unless someone has fitted a gateway from an older car to your Scirocco.

Thanks. Yeah I think it was a dodgy unit as everything I'd read led me to think the battery drain wasn't relevant to my car. So I've returned it.

The only other instance of I could find on Google with a Scirocco draining it's battery with an rcd330 was a faulty stereo, so I presume I just got unlucky!
