I bought a second hand Passat Highline Plus just before Christmas and have had a few issues with the Bluetooth. It has the VW branded Bury device on the dash and Bluetooth Streaming RNS310 with Navigation.

In order to connect my phone I had to go through and array of trying to register both the VW UHV connection to the head unit and then set up the connection to the Bury device. If I just connect the Bury device to the phone the audio quality is awful so either there is a problem or I am doing something wrong.

So will the current set up when I get into the car the Head Unit starts up first and connects to the phone then the Bury device claims it can't see the VW UHV (guessing because I am already connected to it). Once this times out looking i am able to then pair the Bury device with my phone using the touchscreen interface on the Bury, this is annoying to have to do every time. Can this be set to automatically connect to my phone and not the VW UHV?

Once both the Bury and the VW UHV are connected I have all the functions i would expect other then on the occasional call once its disconnected the Head Unit appears to hang in the call once the call is ended using the Bury device. The phone drops the call but the head unit stays in the call. A few minutes later it drops all bluetooth connections.

I am using an iPhone XS Max running 12.1.12, I don't use any other phones but doubt the phone is at fault as works fine with other bluetooth systems.

The Highline Plus didn't have any form of Bluetooth from the factory, that was why UK dealers added the Bury kit. So it sounds like someone may have attempted (badly) to retrofit the VW Bluetooth module to your car? The RNS 310 doesn't have Bluetooth built in.

The correct process to get it working should simply be to pair your iPhone to the Bury kit, and it will then automatically route via the car's Mic/ Speakers. The headunit gets placed into a Phone mode during calls and effectively mutes the Radio/ Media output.

I don't remember these officially having a Bluetooth Audio streaming capability which may explain the poor output you're experiencing. Easiest answer here might just be to purchase a simple 3.5mm Bluetooth A2DP adaptor for Audio streaming, and then just stick to the Bury for calls only?

All the Highline Plus that I viewed had the same kit. It’s also in the manual for the car. I think the polo had the same kit too.

Yes as VW UK dealers went through a phase of fitting the Bury kit to all cars, but it’s technically a retrofit as wasn’t there from the factory. Anyway that should work fine for phone calls

The bit I was questioning is you said your RNS 310 has a separate Bluetooth module. You wouldn’t usually have both that and the Bury kit...

Ah right the headunit shows up as VW UHV and unless I connect to that then I don’t get audio streaming. If I connect the phone to the Touch Control Audio is broken and crackly. Also didn’t stream music. There is a box under the drivers seat that I have reset in the attempts to make it work correctly.
