Discussion
Hi all,
I've been reading the forums for a few years now but have decided to sign up in the hopes someone can give me some advise regarding my 6n1 Polo.
Long story short I lost power steering in November, thought it was just the pump so bought a new one from ECP's sister site, took it to my garage to have it fitted, was then told it wasn't the pump, it was the pipes that had rusted. Took me weeks to find the correct pipes, ended up getting then made from scratch, went to my garage last week where they fitted the new pipes and the new pump (as recommended). Thought that was it, all fine, but life's never that simple, is it?
Went to collect the car and was told that there was an issue with the new pump; it wasn't kicking in until revs were high. After some discussion we agreed that I'd take the car away and see if the pump bedded in. Went to Aldi and it seemed OK, little stiff on parking, but otherwise alright. Didn't use it again until Wednesday when I took a trip to Newark (approx 20 miles away); seemed fine on the drive, but when I got to the retail park it was like parking a tank! Clearly no bedding in occurred.
Now, my garage said that if the new pump didn't bed in they could put the old pump back on and see if that fixes the issue. However, I was told this would not be a good idea as it had been running dry, but the garage said no, it'd be OK. So I can do that, or I can buy another new pump and see if that works, but for each pump change I'll be spending £50+. They said if it's still not working correctly it could be the steering rack and that'd set me back £400! So I'm really not sure what to do.
If anyone can advise the best way forward I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ex.

Is there any other lights up on the dash than just the power Steering?I've been reading the forums for a few years now but have decided to sign up in the hopes someone can give me some advise regarding my 6n1 Polo.
