Hi all,

I recently bought a 2nd car, a 59 Plate A3 8P Convertible 2.0 TDI S-Line

This has Audi Navigation Plus, MMI 3G High installed with the flip screen for DVD and Memory Cards

The glovebox is empty, ie no AMI.

I can see AMI units on ebay etc for varying amounts of money, 60-200£

Can I get one of these AMI CAN boxes and connect to the back of the head unit ?

Ideally I need to add bluetooth hands free and audio, but keep it as integrated as possible ?

Any thoughts or options would be much appreciated !

The AMI is overrated IMO, I had it on my old S5 and found it quite a restrictive interface. Only really talks to older iPhones/ iPhones or USB 'Mass Storage' devices, and requires an Audi specific cable rather than normal USB.

Better bet would just be to retrofit an AUX input, which on a 59-plate should be pretty cheap and straightforward. You could then just connect in a 3.5mm Bluetooth Audio adapter to that.

Personally I’d ditch the nav, get a 300 quid CarPlay unit and use Apple maps/google maps/waze

Will be 100x better than the clunky outdated Audi nav
