A bit more geekery here.

Any ideas what the most commonly used part is across the VAG range of cars?

Does any part get used on every model?

So does anything get used on all VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti and Porsche cars?

I recognise the Golf bonnet catch on a lot of them but is it used throughout?

Indicator stalks? (way back when in the early 2000s, the Skoda Fabia, Octavia, Superb, Seat Leon, Toledo, VW Golf, Bora, Passat, Audi A3 and A6 all shared the same column stalks.)

Depends on how flexible you are when you define "part". If VAG are like most multinationals they'll have a handful of approved suppliers for each minor component, so for example I wouldn't be surprised if there is a single NAND flash device which can be found in every VAG model produced in the last few years. You'd probably find that same part used in every model of Ford, BMW, Vauxhall, etc. as well.

Even if you restrict it to complete parts you can walk into a VAG garage and buy, I suspect the same will be true of various nuts, bolts, grommets, etc.

Not sure on a part level, but I remember reading back in the day that the 1.9 TDI was used in 29 vehicles!

Based on that, a valve spring perhaps?

In all my VAG cars the filler cap has an oil symbol on it, so they wouldn't even need to change them.

I was going to say the indicator side repeater as found on mk4 Golf et al. Seemed to be on everything VAG wise in the early 2000s. That, along with the 1.9 TDi and the 1.8T engine.

Nah, there's dozens of different ones (and TPS do like getting them wrong).

I'm going to go for the little pair of plastic tweezers in the boot for pulling the wheel bolt caps off.
