Mk6 Golf Estate 2.0 TSI

This has caught my eye on Autotrader - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Looks like a normal Mk6 Estate at first glance, but it appears to have the 2.0 TSI engine out of a GTI! I thought it was just a typo at first but the 2.0 TSI badge is present and correct along with the 180mph Speedo.

I used to be a bit of a Golf geek and I can’t remember these ever being offered in this configuration in any RHD European market, let alone the UK. The 1.4 TSI 160 was the highest over here. Also has an unusually high spec with the Xenon headlights and Pan roof. Yet it’s fitted without a MFSW and has the older style DSG shifter

Can anyone shed any light on the possible origin? I have literally no need for a Golf Estate in my life but I’m finding this one strangely tempting...

Whilst I’m clueless about the above I think it’s time vw offered a gti tsi estate, rather than a gtd.

Seems so, I did some digging today and it turns out to be a Japanese import! What was also surprising is the VIN shows a build date of 2009-07-17, so it must've been sat for a couple of years prior to registration if the 61-plate is accurate. This also explains the older style DSG shifter I spotted

Looks like the same car was up for sale at another dealer a couple of years ago (see below) and it had it's first MOT back in October 2014 at 22,325 miles.


The factory spec sheet makes for interesting reading to, has some options I never knew possible on a Mk6 Golf like TV reception! But probably not much use now given it would be Japanese frequencies only

If they're willing to take a bit of the price I'm kind of tempted by it, as it could potentially be the only of it's kind in Europe! Might be fun to give it a full GTI conversion with wheels and bumpers etc. Or keep it looking stock but remap to ~280bhp and turn it into a street sleeper...

Only downside is due it's age the engine fitted is the CCZA variant which was well known to suffer timing chain/ tensioner troubles.

If you have the original owner's manual there's a list of option codes on a sticker inside the front cover. They can then be nerdily typed into a decoder:

Presumably there's somthing else online which can decode from the VIN number.

Found my recent VAG purchase had folding mirrors, after failing to notice folding-mirror decal on the controls.

Yep it's from https://carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/volkswagen

Armed with the VIN it's a very useful website for getting full spec/ build details.

If you don't know the VIN but have the reg start of by using https://info.volkswagen.com/gb/en/home.html?iframe... where it says 'Don’t know your VIN?'

So a 2009 car, knock off £400 for the tensioner change and another £400 to replace the Landsail tyres!

Then, another £150 for DSG oil change, bet you it needs doing.

Finally, stage one remap.
