I think Adrian Flux have a specialist hot hatch policy. Let me know what you get as a a premium, as I'd be interested to know, and will be in a similar situation in a couple of months (hopefully).

Did you really buy a Golf GTi as a first car without checking whether you could insure it?

Can't really help much in terms of specialist insurers; the reason that young inexperienced drivers' premiums are high on hot hatches is because they are statistically an extremely high risk so there's probably not really much a specialist company will be able to do to keep your premium down. You might manage to get a slightly more sensible price if you're willing to have a black-box installed and/or live with a curfew.

Have you tried the usual tricks such as putting an older adult on the policy as a named driver?

What the actual F? 12 x £320 - £1K 'deposit', or 12 x £320 + 1 x £1000?

A complete rip either way.

I feel for young folk. Screwed over with first time house buying, renting AND cars.

Try GreenLight and Brentacre as well. Will none of the big players touch you?

If you can't get a reasonable quote, you will have to get a slower, more boring car unfortunately. Or move to a better area, but see above, f'cked either way!

Maybe a MK5 manual GTI might be cheaper to insure. Not as complex, so cheaper to fix in theory.

2nd putting an older driver as the primary driver, some policies additional drivers earn NCB, I think the choice of car will also affect your premium, you'd be surprised how much cheaper some old barge would to ensure even though it has a big V8 under the bonnet, I found a SAAB 95 Aero (2.3T) to be cheaper to insure than a Renault Scenic Dci!

Chris Knott have always done me well since I got a higher powered car and it has exhaust modification declared as well.

Why would you suggest fronting?

The correct answer is to drive a less risky car for a couple of years to build some no claims.

I'd echo the poster who asked why you wouldn't check premiums before buying a car??...

Or put an older driver as a second.

I put my Dad as a second driver on my insurance from day one and it went down alot, 9 years on I still haven't bothered taking him off. Not sure what difference it makes anymore though.
