2018 VW Golf GTD estate - will the tyres ever wear out?

Coming up to 35,000 miles on the rear tyres on my 2018 Golf GTD estate with 4 mm still left. They have a hard compound and make quite a din at anything over 40 mph. I got over 20,000 out of the front ones but wondering if I will get to 40,000 miles on the rears. My previous Passat saloon only got to 12000 miles on the rear and a similar number for the front.

You've used roughly 50% of your rear tread ,so 40,000 seems feasible for them still to be legal.

Yeah when I got rid of my GTD with 37k miles the rears still had plenty of life left. The fronts on the other hand were completely and utterly worn out at 25k when I replaced them.
