Vw golf mk6 2.0 tdi dsg... temp gauge takes some time to reach 90 even a 20/30 min drive 15/20 miles the needle moves slightly, took 50 minutes from cold start parked up to reach 90 however soon as i drive on a open road the temp gauge drops again! after some reading and getting advise from some garages I decided to have the main thermostat replaced along with fresh coolant. Temp gauge moves faster about 20 mins to reach 90 from cold start but again driving causes it to drop and even putting the heating on seems to affect it iv spent nearly £200 getting the aforementioned job done any ideas what it could be??

In-line (2nd thermostat)
Sensors???

No fault codes stored

Just don't want to spend money on parts and labour and having the problem unresolved

I have read something a few months ago about a second thermostat on the gearbox side above the DSG cooler. Not many garages knew about it and went ahead with water pump replacement and ECT sensors and main thermostat replacement. If I was you I’d replace the 2nd thermostat (if there is one on your car).

Did you experience this issue?

And I believe there is as i removed the air filter box and its just to the left of the dsg cooler. I also spoke to TPS who confirmed this via my reg. im just worried if i go ahead and change it and the issue remains lol seems like im doing more damage to my wallet than the vehicle.

Hi, This hasn't happened to me directly but my friend had a 2006 2.0L DSG and if I remember correctly we replaced the 2nd thermostat and it fixed the issue. Pretty sure the part was only £20 Or so but it was 3/4 years ago. If your gonna tackle it yourself then why not try it? But I do see where you are coming from as you have already spent £200 and that didn't fix your problem.
