I doubt i'm the first and clearly won't be the last to encounter this issue hence the post. Car is a 2007 with magnetic shocks.
It took an Audi main dealers 2 years to diagnose what was wrong and they had to leak for them to find the knocking problem.
Audi offered to do the work for £3500 then a day later it was £2900 and when i said i had found another way the price dropped to £1800. At this point i said done and a day later Audi called me to say it wasn't possible as they don't make the bolts anymore and it would need to be a completely new suspension rebuild (think about £6000)
At this point i went down the more unusual route of exploring a refurbishment in Poland!
Used a specialist TC Garage in Copthone who told me those bolts are common and many companies make them. They did all the work and sent them out to Nagengast in Poland. https://nagengast.pl/en/about/
There is a video of how they regenerate them which shows how much work goes into it the process. Its fast as well...like a 1 week turn around. This is probably one of the best companies i have ever dealt with. i paid and before the money had cleared they had already put them in the post. The garage said they looked like new and the car now drives like it did 10 years ago.
The garage also spotted the Oil Cooler was blocked so have saved me a blown engine.
Hence both Nagengast and TC Garage deserve this post for outstanding work

They may not last but when you see the video of the process's they used it's very complete and the drive it like a new car again so see no reason why they won't...even comes with a warranty

Interesting. Someone on youtube, who restores written off cars (Samcrac) has a 2008 R8 which had the same issue. He ended up swapping in conventional shocks. Good to know that there are companies out there who actually restore them properly without a completely ruinous price.

Thanks for posting this.

I find it amazing however that Audi don't do the work as the bolts aren't made any more? I've never heard of that - anyone else ITK able to confirm this?

Considering Audi costs are usually roughly £1k a corner on the mag ride shocks and the mis-quoting, wonder if this is just an incompetent dealer? I thought dealers had to be certified as a "sport" dealership to service R8's?

Trust me this is a main Audi Dealer who looked after for 10 years.. The bolts are just a joke, its a common part but because Audi don't make them they won't fit them for audit reasons and that comes from head office. So happy that the car went to a specialist as teh specialist spotted the oil cooler which Audi missed and that could have blown the engine

You only asked the dealer to look at the suspension.

No doubt, if they had found the oil cooler problem and told you, you would be here complaining they were trying to con you in to having more work done.

The car was in the main dealer 18 months ago and they knew it had a problem with the Oil temperature gauge. I am not interested in the past and only in the present. Happy that it was spotted by the specialist before it was expensive.

That excuse about the bolts is bull. There are many places that would make bolts for them for a couple of pound.

Certainly looks that way but sadly we now live in a world of total compliance for the main dealers. Hence they wouldn't do the work for Audit reasons. When i told the specialist they weren't made anymore and could we use the original bolts they said the same as you. You can buy them anywhere!
