Anything really to choose between them? DSG/S-tronic required. i.e. auto.
Ive found a 2015 Golf Bluemotion match DSG, 20,000 on for £12,995 and a 2014 A3 SE sportback S tronic with 27,000 on it for £11,700.
The Golf on the forecourt looked fine would be tempted apart from its £1500 out of budget really. Not been to look at the A3 yet as its further away.

Will be hoping to part/ex my 61 plate Golf DSG Match and get £5k or just over for it.

Anyone any views on one over the other? Is the A3 a harder ride but with better interior? Cheers all.

I've tried both and there isn't really a lot between them. The A3 has a better interior but the Golf came with more kit as standard. I'd possibly be more tempted by the Audi as I think it looks slightly nicer and will be easier to sell on in future.

The A3 has the better interior with better materials. Will hold its value better also.

The Golf handles a tad better and I believe is a little lighter on the scales.

Make sure you go for the 150ps ACT engine though.

Active Cylinder Technology

it's the feature where the engine can shut off 2 cylinders when under light load.

The ACT engines are 140/150 bhp.

I've no first hand experience of either but the ACT seems like a no brainer to me. More performance and more economy compared to the non-ACT version.

thanks for that. Im guessing that tech came in too recently for cars in my price bracket to appear. Im looking at 2104/2015 tops, less than £12k

ACT was available as early as 2014. I reckon around £12k for a 2014 SE/Sport Audi A3 ACT 150ps is the correct price.
