Audi A4 TFSI Oil consumption!
Discussion
Hard to finf a car that the pistons and rods have been replaced as most cars are sold by traders and they know nothing of its history. The car im looking at Is currently at 99k miles on the clock and has had its timing chain and tensioner placed couple k miles ago which is always good but nothing about the other engine work being done.
When did audi decide to rectify the issues was it the 2012 models onwards that they sorted it out from factory?

I have read that for some cars, the piston rings don't wear down to a point where oil consumption becomes an issue. Personally I would avoid it overall and just get the larger 3.2 if possible. Fuel consumption difference is marginal as the A4 is not that heavy of a car, and they are both Quattro cars anyway so fuel consumption is already lower than the FWD equivalent. Faster too!
The EA888 engines are within tolerance for oil consumption, but 2009 puts you right into the meat of excessive chain tensioner wear zone.
It was the longitudinal EA113 engines that suffered from massive oil consumption because, for some inexplicable reason, Audi decided to use oval pistons and less springy piston rings. What the hell Audi were smoking at that time is a mystery but they started fitting the ROUND pistons and rings from the transverse EA113 soon after. Just don't buy anl A4 with an EA113 engine is my advice.

Was thinking the same thing myself, how would you know if just looking at the car? When did Audi decide to rectify the issues was it the 2012 models onwards that they sorted it out from factory?
I assume smoky tailpipes could be a giveaway but most are probably anyway. Is there a definitive date after which this issue was sorted?
I like the idea of 3.2 or 3.0tfsi but they are rare and more expensive.
On the other hand how are the 1.8t's, are they affected by any similar issues?
