MK 6 DSG Golf GTI Noise
Discussion
Hey folks. Quick question for you all...
I have a MK6 Golf Gti with 54k miles on the clock and I've recently noticed a very strange noise when the car is cold. When pulling away and driving through 1st and 2nd gears there's a really strange scrapping sound. It particularly does it when coasting going down hill and the revs are quite high. It only lasts a mile or two if that, and then has gone. Its quite a harsh metal like scrape or high pitched vibration, sorry sounds odd I know!
Its not a rubbing disc or wheel bearing.
I have heard a DSG box requires an oil change around now and wondered if it might be that, could explain it going when the car is warmed up.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

I couldn't say whether it is the source of the noise, but DSG oil should be changed at 40k or 4 years, and this is critical to the life expectancy and reliability of the transmission. I really don't mean to sound overly dramatic on this, but if it's done 54k on the same oil, there is a significantly increased risk of issues chance of expensive issues further down the line. A good friend of mine has been a VW dealer service tech for nearly 30 years, and tells me that DSG transmissions, if serviced correctly, are very reliable. However, they do see quite a few that are playing up, or that fail prematurely, and he reckons he struggles to think of a single example where the 40k service interval hasn't either been stretched, or completely ignored.
If it hasn't had the oil change, I'd get it done now as a matter of course, and then reassess the situation.

Cold and high revs? Hmm...
I'd get the box oil changed and looked over by a specialist, I think the valve body can be adjusted slightly by those that know what they're doing. There's a very good VW independent in Macclesfield if you're near it.
Ha! Sorry when I say high revs I mean going down hill in a lower gear...not thrashing it when its cold!
