New Audi's dont have service books - right?
Discussion
True EXCEPT FOR the gearbox oil change requirements.
A6 needed a change at 38,000 miles.
The OBD does not show this.
The electronic service book does not record this.
You need to ring Audi UK, ask if the car is current and up to date - and then ALSO ask specifically, has the Gearbox Oil been changed according to the service pamphlet. (check this)
Don't ask me how I know......... Or how I know a replacement G/box was offered at a cost of £10k despite assurances from the OBD, and Dealership and Audi UK that the Car was 'up to date'.
This was relevant to an A6 Quattro, maybe not the same as the A4, but the All Road A4 may make this prudent.

Huh? Gear oil changes do show on Erwin.
Which is accessible to the service techs.Wind back the process to where the OP is now - he is looking to buy an A4 AllRoad.
He has no 'stamped book' to view that can show the car is all up to date and correct. Just the word of the Seller.
What does The OP do now to confirm the car is as per the service schedule and fit to buy ?
He can check the OBD readout. But this will not show Gearbox oil service status or schedule.
Thanks all. The car in question is located 429 miles from me. I can imagine that the owner may be reluctant for me to plug into the OBD port to read out service history. Would you want someone doing this to a car you were selling?
I am due to get the car inspected by Highland Audi - so hope that they wil lbe able to tell me its history.

OP, I only raise the G/Box oil as a very expensive lesson was learnt where Audi sidestepped a claim for a G/box repair, despite asking Audi UK and my local Audi Dealer for a healthcheck over the phone on the car I bought privately.
They did not flag up the Oil change being 3000miles out of date at the time.
Nor was it raised when it was in the main dealer and I assume plugged in a further 10,000 miles later.
Only when I mentioned a noise from the box did they come up with the 'it hasn't had an oil change' fiasco.
It is crackers to me that without a service manual, the OBD / Service screen on the MMI does not catch this discrepancy.

Owner can login to MyAudi and print service history. That's assuming dealer authorised him as owner of this car. After GDPR, website was changed and users have to be authorised by dealership. Just did it yesterday and dealership wasn't up to speed with the process.I am due to get the car inspected by Highland Audi - so hope that they wil lbe able to tell me its history.
You will have problem with service history with every Audi, unless owner has invoices.

I too asked for that, but again - omission in real detail of exactly what was performed ... and what was deemed outstanding. You will have problem with service history with every Audi, unless owner has invoices.

If they want to hold it all electronically, it should be all encompassing and inform the owner of the needs.
Or they need to release the information for the owner to self inform.
The Gearbox Oil matter falls between the cracks and could culminate in a £10k bill due to the failing of the system.
Sloping shoulders all round when I took in turn to task : Audi Warranty, Audi Uk and Audi Dealer locally.
The issue falls between all three and became a toxic matter.

Ours is very messed up - it knows we own the car now, and for its first service, but the others it says were done under a previous owner (we've had the car from new). It also shows that it's overdue all the 3yr work, even the MOT. It was all (inc the MOT) done at the dealer. If they want to hold it all electronically, it should be all encompassing and inform the owner of the needs.

When I had some time on my hands about 9mths ago I went back and forth between the VW CS and the dealer trying to sort it out. Eventually it was all correct. I happened to look the other day and it's back to where it was, like they've restored it based on an old back-up or something.
It's probably result of upgrading their MyAudi site and integrating it with some other information. Dealers are not really up to speed how it all works. I just logged into my account and I can see that latest service is missing from there, but it was there 2 days ago. I have all paperwork for the car and had for previous one. When previous one was collected by BCA, they said they don't want any invoices.

I recently had the gearbox oil/filter changed on my S4. On the printout they gave me there is a line 'additional work carried out' where it says gearbox oil, presumably this info is on the database/website?A6 needed a change at 38,000 miles.

Thanks all. So i have placed a deposit on a 15 plate A4 for my wife to use.
The car comes without service book. The last service was carried out by a non audi dealer, with no invoice to prove.
So this is not documented anywhere and is now lost.
Is this just a way of Audi forcing you to use thier servicing?

I don't think anyone is being forced to do anything. The car comes without service book. The last service was carried out by a non audi dealer, with no invoice to prove.

If you don't like that car - any car - for some reason - any reason - don't buy it.
