Morning all, starting to look at some diesel options for my sis as she does 60 miles a day (mainly motorway

How good are the 1.6tdi engines, power and economy wise and anything to look out for?

Or would a 1.4tsi be equally good on the fuel economy side of things

Cheers all

What budget/ year are you looking at?

The 1.6 TDI in the Mk7 can suffer from EGR and DPF issues even when doing lots of motorway miles.

If you can afford it the 1.0 TSI in the Mk7 is the nicest small engine. Has 116bhp so feels punchy enough and will return a real world 50mpg. Very few reported issues with these and most will still be under warranty.

Year wise probably 2016 onwards as most i have seen at in budget

Budget wise probably a max of £10k

I was also looking at the 1,4tsi but dont know how it compares fuel wise to the tdi

Ive got a Mk5 2,0 gttdi and love it and get good mpg on it (approx 50 on the motorway)

But a 2.0 would be to expensive on the insurance

I would definitely say try the 1.0 TSI then. It has the same power as the latest 1.6 TDI (116bhp) but weighs much less making it feel quicker. Economy as I mentioned is very strong too.

The 1.4 TSI is slightly faster but will use more fuel, and I think you'll struggle to get a 2016 for £10k.

The 1.4 Tsi is a cracking engine. Shame the test of the car is crap.
