Due to circumstances I'm looking at (shortlisting) getting an A4 or A6 Avant with the choice of an almost 150k mile 3.0 TDI (from 2005) or a 100k mile 2.0 TFSI (from 2008)

What should I look out for with these?

I know the TDI from 2005 was prone to injector issues. Are the replacement injectors considered a final fix for the problem, or is it still prone to having these issues?

HI, I could be wrong, but think the injector issues only affected the 2.0tdi from this time (mainly 170bhp, but occasionally 140bhp) I don't think 3,0tdis were an issue

05-07 3.0 TDI's have injector issues.

I would advise looking at 09 onwards cars with the later engine, more efficient, cheaper tax, if budget allows

Don't know much about the diesel but wouldn't touch the tfsi of that generation. Google tfsi issues and enjoy.

I've owned both - in an A6 i would go 3.0 tdi as much as i hate derv. The TFSI was great in an A4 but torque & consumption suits the TDI in an A6.

Both were reliable over 7 years although A6 has recognised manifold inlet intake around 80k but a 4-500 fix at an indy & nothing else required, this has probably done by now anyway in an 05. TFSI needs cam belt changes of similar price but engine suits lighter sportier type of body & less nose heavy.

Comparatively my TFSI replaced with a new S3 which is made of chocolate in comparison - build quality awful against vintage you are looking at.

I currently have a 06 A4 avant with the 3 litre diesel. Just over 2 years of ownership now, having started at 107,000 miles and now coming up to 137,000. Not had any issues with the engine at all. Lovely and smooth running and getting about 35-ish to the gallon - that's with a gentle right foot. However have had plenty of issues with the tiptronic gearbox. That has all now been sorted but weren't cheap.

EA113 2.0 TFSI is generally fine; minor issues only. You're probably thinking about early EA888s and there is some overlap but C6 chassis A6s never got that engine.
