Audi A3 Nav Update
Discussion
Hi,
I recently bought a 2015 Audi A3, and was wondering if there is a way of updating the Nav for free. I looked on other forums and they said to set up a My Audi and link my vehicle, which I have done but it's saying there is no update available. I checked on my car and the maps are 2015, surely there should be an update, and if so how would I go about updating it?
TIA

For this model and year, I would expect you to have the MMI 3G+, if you have the basic SD card system, updating the maps is a dealer/specialist only job.
It's not just a matter of replacing the SD card, the card has to be activated and paired to the car using an "ODIS" system (the official factory electronic diagnostic tool).

The cards are transferrable between cars but are on their own useless.
The cards when new come with a licence key that is activated and assigned to the car with ODIS (VAG diagnostic software).
Once activated the navigation will only then read a card with the same part number it was activated with.
If you lose one card any other one with the IDENTICAL part number will work (a secondhand one from ebay, for example).
If you want to update the maps you'll need to buy a new SD and licence from Audi and have it activated. There is no way to work around this or do it for free.

Not the same as SEAT then, I had 2014 maps on my MK3 Leon, purchased a new sealed 2016 maps from ebay (different part number) plugged it in and it worked fine. The cards when new come with a licence key that is activated and assigned to the car with ODIS (VAG diagnostic software).

We then tried to put my old card into another 2014 Leon and wouldn't work, neither would the 2016 maps either. Same headunit as well in both cars.
