This is primarily on the GTI, but I assume applies to all MK7's, can anyone advise from when apple car play became standard?

I also recall it being mentioned on here that from a certain point onwards you can activate it, presumably at a cost, again does anyone know when and if so how to identify a car it can be 'switched on' from?

Cheers

On the MK7, it became a cost option on MY16 cars, so roughly cars built around June/July 2015 onwards. Any MK7's before that did not have the option and it's near impossible to retrofit cost effectivly.

It became 'Standard' equipment (no cost) on the facelift MK7.5 which were built from from mid 2017.

Basically if it is 65 plate onwards and has either the 6.5 or 8 inch screen it should be ok

Bare in mind if it's a MK7 then CarPlay was optional (it was only standard on the 7.5), not standard, so if it wasn't specced at new then it will need to be activated at the dealer for circa £250-300.

Thanks for that, I assume it can only be activated (if not optioned) for the 65 plate + ones? Though that's a lot of money!

Yup, any car that is MY16 onwards. Build for MY16 started in week 22, so you will find some late 15 plate cars with the Headunit that can have it activated if it's not already.

Many thanks for your reply. Having had a non GTI MK7 I know that whilst not bad the built in nav is pretty useless relative to google maps etc in particular for traffic.

I know this is an old thread but is it 100% the case that any Mk.7.5 Golf will have Apple Carplay?

Some adverts mention it and some don't which led me to think it was an option.

i think it may have been an option on the very basic cars, but if it has nav it should have carplay too.

Just googled it:
https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/idhub/content/dam/one...

As above optional on basic S model and standard on everything else.

Cheers for that.
