Bought a cheap 2009 Passat 1.9 TDi PD105 (BXE Engine) with 160k on it as a dog and sprog chariot.

Runs and drives nicely, other than the idle is sometimes erratic to the point of shaking the car. And occasionally (worst when starting hot) it'll start then immediately die again. Then it'll restart with a little cough.

No invasive work just yet (getting married in 4 days and apparently now is not the time to be pulling a car to pieces!).

A few observations;
- Wobbly idle is worst when cold, but still felt ever so slightly when warm
- Idle issue remains whether clutch is engaged or disengaged, and no noise when changing gear (so guessing not DMF related)
- Sometimes shaky when pulling from low RPM too (30mph in 5th is sometimes fine, other times not)
- Thermostat seems to be stuck slightly open as takes a long time to reach 90°C
- Tried EGR cleaner and injector cleaner, both of which seemed to help but not eliminate the issue.

My thoughts are fuelling or EGR related due to the erratic nature of the faults.

Any suggestions from those more versed in these engines?
