My parents are looking to move on from their Golf GTD and would like something smaller, but equally as well built so have shown some initial interest in the A1.

Their only requirements are: Petrol, 5 door, similar power to the Golf (170bhp), manual and 2015-2017 age.

So looks like the 1.4... but I noticed there is a TFSi with 123bhp, 138bhp, 147bhp and 182bhp.
Is this the same engine just with a different map?

The 182bhp appears to be S Tronic only so that has to be disregarded, so this leaves the 138bhp and the 147bhp.
Any owners out there that can share their experience with this engine? Positives? Negatives?

They cover around 6,000-8,000 miles per year. Mainly town driving and the occasional motorway journey/longer trip.
They often carry passengers which I'm slightly concerned about given the size of the A1, but they insist that they don't want something as big as a Golf/A3 again. Are they spacious enough in the back?

Welcome any feedback/alternative cars to consider/must have options on the A1 etc...
From an initial look I quite like the look of the S Line.

Thanks

Moving from a Golf they will find the Audi's suspension hard and it may not be to their choice.

I wouldn't touch an A1 when, in the VAG group, you can get effectively the same car (same underpinnings, same engines, same systems) for far less money and from dealers that don't treat anyone with less than an A4 as not worth speaking to.

We have had 2 Audis but they were A2s so unique in the VAG product line.

I wouldn't bother with the old A1, it will feel like a massive step back from the GTD. It's too small and has quite a forgettable drive.

The new shape one launched this year is a lot better tho with a much nicer interior and feels very grown up to drive. I'd be looking at that in '35 TFSI' form which puts out 150PS from it's 1.5 engine.
