Hi I have a 18 Reg Passat Estate leased directly from VW Finance, obtained via fleet services in the dealership.

Car has done 11k miles so far.

When I took delivery of this car, I was told its first service wasnt due for 2 years / 20k miles. And my car has given me no indication that it needs a service, no oil change messages or anything like that.

I have just received a no reply email from the dealership I got it from though saying its due a service and to book it in, which is a bit odd considering its September and I took delivery in May 2018.

Now that I have the car my contract is with VWFS only isnt it? And the car is telling me the correct information and the dealership is incorrect to send me that email?

Im worried I could be in breach of contract since the dealerships system seems incorrect.

Depends on the terms in your contract, but I would have thought service would be due when the car tells you, not the dealer who has no idea how far you’ve driven it. Dealers are keen for services revenue, hence the emails. I’d wait until the car service indicator shows up.

Somewhere in the menus, it will tell you how long it is until it's due a service.

I'd be guessing at somewhere around 2 years \ 18000 miles.

ETA - lease cars are on longlife servicing, which varies dependent on the usage. Retail cars are on fixed intervals.

Yep agree with this, it is nothing to do with the dealership

The VWFS contracts will generally state to service in accordance with what the car tells you it needs.

Had service light pop up on wife's leased golf (11k miles) - we were expecting a service at two years. Called the lease company, they said it was an error when the car was delivered, gave us instructions to reset the service light (hold trip reset when turning on ignition), and emailed confirmation that it should be 2 year / 18k miles.

In your case, I'd be calling the lease company...it's their car.

This.

Just google how to do it.

The car assesses the oil quality, so you may need a service earlier than 18000 miles.
