HI,

2009 Golf 6 GT TDI manual 100k

There is a clunk sound about 50% of the time only when pulling off from stationary either forwards or reverse.

I found a way to make it do it all the time - stop on an incline down, hold the brake after when stopped, then release then the clonk happens.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the rear calliper is sticking slightly when hill-hold is engaged

Thanks,

Do not have the hill hold option on my MK6, I do think sticking pad, but rear discs and calipers done about 20k ago

What might cause a pad to stick? I do notice much more brake dust build up on the rear right (where I think the noise comes from)

Have gone under the central console and loosened off that divider plate, that splits the handbrake cable into two. To the point is a good inch of free play when feel the handbrake gets grip, so sort of rules that outl

Pretty sure all mk6s (perhaps not the poverty spec ones) had hill hold. It’s not a button like on Audi’s etc it just pinches the rear brakes for a couple of seconds on inclines/declines to allow you to find the biting point without rolling.
