Hi
I'm looking into/buying a 2016 onwards a6 allroad bitdi.....
what should look for?
Its a late 2016
42,000 miles
full history
20" wheels
tow bar
tech pack
comfort pack
hi beam assist
parking pack
few other little bits
its going to be a motorway car, 15k per year.
I've been told 40mpg is easy at a 75ish mph motorway run..... do we agree!?
Anything to look for/test etc etc?
thank you.

I’ve done 41k miles in last 18 months in mine.
Nothing has gone wrong at all. Needed new pads/discs on rear. Front pads/discs apparently same as old S6 according to dealer and these will need done in next 10k miles. But other than that, it’s just routine servicing. I get 17-18k miles between services. Tyre life excellent - I swapped my 20”s for 18” winters for 5 months from Nov to March and I haven’t bought summer tyres yet. Looks much better on 20s. Panoramic roof is lovely. Very quick car and highly capable mile muncher. My average is about 38mpg in that time and I’m convinced it has deteriorated slightly since the emissions software upgrade maybe 6 months ago. Before that it was nearer to 40mpg.
Once your car reaches 3 years old I think you can get the service pack which covers one minor and one major for £450.
Great car and even sounds pretty decent too...

Ps mine is a 2016 model year that I bought with 44k miles and it’s now on 85k milesNothing has gone wrong at all. Needed new pads/discs on rear. I’ve just got a 65 plate A7 with the same engine. Looked around for allroads but couldn’t find the right one. Lots of options - varies hugely car to car - I bought a brochure from eBay so I could work out what options you could get.
38mpg yesterday over 190 miles split between motorways and hilly A/B roads - not aiming for economy in any way! 40+ motorway only should be very easy.
Mines done 61k, had discs and pads at least once, and it needs the front control arms replacing (£300 ish, bushes are clonking a bit). I’ve found an ex-Audi indie locally who seems good. Will be better value than Audi dealers I suspect. Other than the clones it seems solid. 20” Falken tyres just put on, much better ride and noise levels than the 21” Dunlops they replaced.
Active cruise is a must - it’s literally brilliant. Operates in stop start traffic, occasional harsh stop but a great stress reducer.
All bitdis have the active exhaust thingy which does help mask the dieselness slightly.
I’ve read of a couple of turbo failures but it’s rare. Gearbox is a big plus - it’s an 8 speed slusher made by zf, much tougher than the fragile 7 speed S tronics all the other engines got, even the S6/7 got the seven speed. Very smooth changes apart from 1-2 in traffic being a bit harsh sometimes. Oil change around 60k divides opinion, plus it’s not cheap to do.
Allroads are air suspension which I would love to have found on an A7, it’s a genuine magic carpet ride on smaller wheels.
Sound system is good, mines got a bang and olufsen system but the bose sounded just as good.
Just check for oil leaks and that everything works - loads of electrical stuff that’d bankrupt me if it went wrong - or get a warranty. I’ve bought an Audi warranty simply because the car is so complex any repair would probably cover the cost. Will see how it goes over the first year. Cheaper warranty quotes when under 60k.
Bought this to do long distances - it literally eats long journeys - an air suspended allroad would be even better.

thanks, air suspension 'better/more reliable" than older setups? how are you finding it on the motorway? what do you get on a good 150mile motorway run?
The air suspension so far has been faultless. I set it in auto for everything bar engine noise. Comfort way too wafty/floaty for my tastes. Dynamic useful on faster A roads. The Allroad setting is pretty handy when doing any sort of off road or track (I’m thinking flooded roads/fords, campsites or rocky car parks rather than green laning!) On motorway it’s great. Marginally less comfortable than my old A8 D4 was but so much quicker, more discrete, just as economical and significantly better cross country. I have a fast A road / motorway commute.
On motorway it’s pretty economical but 37-40 is realistic at 75-80. Took us to France and back and few trips from Scotland to south of England with roofbox, 4 bike’s on towbar. Completely effortless.
On average speed camera run on A9 down from Inverness it is nudging 51. But life is too short......??
I don’t have adaptive cruise but do have head up display and that is pretty handy in my experience.
It’s a pretty discrete way to make swift progress and it’s a pretty rare beast. Not that many bitdi allroads were sold compared to A7 or regular A6s. The list price of mine was similar - c £64k back in summer 2015. Get about 8k miles from adblue before it needs topped up.

Mine hasn't got adaptive cruise either, its just a 'nice to have' for me. Super pleased about the MPG feedback. I like a wafty motorway run, so comfort for the suspension there I think! Part of the appeal is just how rare they are and what a useful combo of space/pace/price/'discreetness'.
Just a quick one to say thanks.
Bought one this week, 40,000 miles, nov 2016 build.
bloody amazing thing really.
Did a circa 350mile trip, Ripon to Exeter, via Nottingham city centre, 45mpg, quite amazing for a 320hp, v6, 2 tonne, 4wd auto. Normal motorway speeds, so road works, slow traffic and empty motorway cruising speeds.
Really smooth to drive, totally effortless overtaking. Gearbox is great, can't get over what a smooth powertrain it is, or how it pulls from 1100rpm.
The only thing i'm not looking forward to is cubing the lovely wheels. Oh, or buying 20" tyres.

I am sure you will enjoy it. I had really enjoying driving mine for last 41,000 miles until I was pulled over on the motorway last night.......
At least I am now able to compare the rear seats of my allroad with the back of a marked 5 series touring!! Drove rest of way home somewhat more sedately! It’s a great all rounder and you will love it.
