VW Passat 2001 130 tdi losing power

Car runs fine around town, but once I get out on an open road, I put my foot down and it loses power. Therefore, I pull up, turn the ignition off, start the car again, 1st, 2nd, into 3rd, press the throttle, turbo starts to cut in and then cuts out. Can repeat the motion and it will do exactly the same. It's like it resets itself then dies.

The variable turbo vanes are likely clogged with gunge, and don't operate correctly, and the car goes into limp mode. Switching off resets it. That was the problem on my pd 150 Bora.
