Morning All,

I have a A6 Allroad on a 64 plate. This week I have suddenly found water in the front & rear drivers side foot wells.

The rear footwell is the worst & was fast becoming a paddling pool. I have found that the air vent that is under the drivers seat is full of water.

I'm going to look in the rear wheel arches for blocked drain holes.

I can't see any visible water coming in to the car.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers,

Iain

A good place to start is the plastic membrane behind the door cards. These can become detached or damaged if someone has accessed the inside of the door. Water will quickly leak through to the footwell if they are not intact and sealed to the door frame.

Most likely this. Captain Tolley’s crack cure worked a treat for me.

That was Golf based cars and was mostly caused by incorrect fitment of the plastic flap that protects the filter from rain. A6 pollen filters are inside under the dash.

Hi All,

I have managed to dried out the footwells. Still no evidence of water ingress. I think it might be coming through the air distribution system.

More investigation required.

I had a C5 AllRoad with exactly this problem. The drain hole at the bottom of the plenum was blocked by leaves, and the plenum was full of water up to the pollen filter, through which is was then trickling into the cabin.

Open the bonnet and pull off he plenum cover at the back – big plastic thing. If the plenum is full of water there's your problem. Solving it in a C5 was PITA because the drain hole is right down under the battery. So the battery needed to come out, and it was a big heavy bd. But once in I just poked the leaves out and job done.

I had exactly the same problem on a 1988 VW Polo. It's amazing that VAG haven't managed to cure this issue in 30 years of vehicle development.

Scuttle area filling up with general leaves and crap is a big Audi failing. I have to take the plastic scuttle cover off my A5 and hoover out tons of crud a couple of times a year, its a stupid piece of design that leaves can get down there. I have a large oak tree outside my house and the amount of crap that gets down there has to be seen to be believed.
