So today I looked at a MK7.5 golf gti, the garage is going to put the finance through tonight so could potentially be getting the car tomorrow.

Car drove very nice, was impressed with it, but it wouldn’t find any radio stations, dab or fm, which is annoying as I would of liked to hear the speakers, what could of been causing this? Cars still under warranty as it’s 2 years old so I’m not too worried as I’m sure if I can’t fix it VW would.

Car was advertised as having park assist although there was no button by the gear stick so I’m sure the spec by auto trader, it says it has high beam assist, but when I put the high beams on , there wasn’t the symbol with the “a” in it, again not too worried as the led lights were good enough, but would be nice to know what it’s actually got. Is there still websites you can check with the vin? I have the vin number.

Not sure I'd consider a gold one.

If Mk1 eyeball says the options aren't there, best to assume they are not.

Not to up on 7.5 specs (have a 7 GTI PP) but thought parking sensors were standard fit? Ours certainly has them front and rear, and there's a button for them.

It has got parking sensors, and the park pilot on the screen, I’m on about auto parking, autotrader says the cars equipped with it, on the mk7 there’s a button above the parking assist button you press and it scans for spaces, all the 7.5s, I haven’t seen any buttons on the 7.5 on other adverts stating it’s got park assist, so I’m not sure if it’s automatic now without a button or autotrader is wrong on all the cars.

Got you ref park assist - only seen it on an S3 we test drove, and never on a Golf. Not an option I'd pay for, based on experience with a Lexus with it. By the time it's sorted itself out you'd be in the space already!

I'd assume AT auto data filling is not working properly....

Yea I’m not bothered about it, had it in a merc ML and found it a bit of a gimmick.

Annoying that auto trader isn’t getting the right spec.

Anyone know how to get it with the vin, before you actually own the car?

Only by going into a VW dealer and asking the question (there used to be a spec line to VW UK but think it's a premium rate call) and/or knowing someone in the trade such as Dr G on here.

Most of them aren't massively specced anyway.....

You'd have a button by the gear lever as my 7 had it and that bit of the car didn't change when the switch was made to 7.5 (though oddly, it isn't an option on the 7.5 R I had).

A novelty I used three times to show people the novelty. Pretty useless if you have camera and sensors.

Agree - and if there's no camera that can be retrofitted for circa £500 using an approved kit (that includes labour costs at South East rates). really like the reverse camara, and wish our S5 had one too!

Thanks for all your replies, looks like autotrader likes to list things that aren’t there then!

Like I said I don’t mind about it having it, I’m sure I can park a golf.

Anyone know about the radio issue?

I had it once through DAB with my mk3 Leon FR. There is a way to do a hard reset which cured mine. Or just give the garage a ring tomorrow before you go get it and let them know of your concerns.

Be very careful

Check and double check it is not a grey import from Cyprus originally sold by Motorpoint or similar. The spec can be slightly different to UK and this might explain the issues. There was a thread on here recently where the car was sold s/h by a main dealer who either hadn't checked it themselves or were pulling a fast one.

Went to look at the car again today, in the light and had the chance to have a proper look around, last night I got there 15 mins before the garage closed.

Fell in love with the car so I took it, would never of thought about getting a blue car but I think this colour works well with the gti.

Car is ex lease, so it’s basic car not much spec apart from dsg, which was a must for me.

Radio won’t find any stations or dab, even if I program to a station, I just get white noise cracking, so I’ll get it booked in with VW soon as I can, music works from the phone etc, so I guess it’s just a broken radio antenna.

Last 4 cars have been diesel, it feels so nice to be back in a petrol, really loving the car, can see it being a keeper.

Nice looking car that. Good look with the twin pipes coming out the back. I'm the same as you, last three cars have been diesel including my Leon FR at the moment so going for a Golf R in the new year.

Thanks, I was looking at the golf r, but couldn’t get a mk7.5 in my price range.

Plus most of the time I’m just driving to work, and at weekends I usually have my 1 year old and mrs in the car, so wouldn’t be able to exploit the power, I’ve had fast 4wd cars before, a 2013 s4 avant and a f31 335d xdrive, you just can’t beat the all weather ability of 4 wheel drive, but I found it did take the fun away, you just point the car stamp the peddle and off they went, especially the s4, the gti feels quick, so I can only imagine how good the R must be, I’m sure you would love it if you get one.

That's a good point, no need to spend money on extra power etc when you cant use it. I'm single, no kids and live in the countryside so I always take back roads to work which is about half hour each way. I love four wheel drive, I've had 2 celica gt4s before and one ran about 300 bhp. It was an absolute weapon. Tein coilover suspension as well, just couldn't unstick it from the road! 😂 I really miss 4wd. Those Audi S4s must be quite a weapon. Was that the V8 you had?

It was the 3.0v6 supercharged version, I loved the car but it averaged 12mpg, i drive with a heavy right foot though, I was saving to buy a house when I had it so I traded it in, then after the house purchase I wanted something quick again, so got the 335d thinking I could have the speed and economy, if anything it was faster than the s4 due to the torque, it really did shift, but didn’t handle anywhere near as good.

If I was single and didn’t have any commitments, I would of got an rs3 or a45 over the gti, but went with my head on this one! I can’t be trusted 300bhp+ car, having 9 points on my license for 2 years really made me appreciate that I need to slow down, luckily got a clean license now though!
