I am looking to buy a replacement PD Tdi car for my son aged 29 in January, his 2004 Skoda Superb 1.9tdi has served him well and I want to replace it with a more modern car but really want one that is "not fitted with a DPF". For example my VW Caddy 09 plate with a BLS 1.9tdi has not got a PDF. any suggestions welcome?

Any Mk5 Golf 1.9 TDI that doesn’t have the ‘Bluemotion’ badge.

When I had a B5 Passat things started to change on them around 2006, I was under the impression most stuff had them by 2009.
You can remove them on later cars but it is frowned upon and if found mot time will result in a fail.(highly unlikely if done properly)
Someone will be along in a minute and flame me for saying this but I’ve done it on 2 cars and just don’t care.

We had a 10 plate Octavia that was still the 2.0 TDi PD engine with no DPF - that was one of the last before switching over to the VAG CR engines

In theory every model from 2009 onwards in the VW range had a DPF. They are not, intrinsically, a bad thing at all. They are a problem if you use the car in ways that result in multiple failed regens (until the DPF gets 'end of life' at somewhere around 150k miles)

Older 'modern' diesels have a lot more to go wrong in terms of exhaust aftertreatment and injectors that cost an absolute fortune due to the mental fuel rail pressures they operate at, plus the electronics to control it all. Does OPs son actually need a diesel?
