Some pretty good deals on the black edition model and standard kit seems reasonable.
Anyone tried one of these?

I’ve had a R-Tech 286, for 8 months/9000 miles and really like it. My driving is mostly country roads. A little urban, a bit of dual carriageway, occasional motorways.

Pros - it’s big and comfy, decently quick and well handling, nearly 40mpg, tech is great.
Cons - it’s big, especially in town, power is good but takes a second to arrive, touch screens look nice but poor ergonomically to be honest, and the auto brightness drives me nuts.

Like said, I really enjoy the car, but being PH I’m sure someone will be along in a while to say it’s crap.

Not shocked by much you said bar the auto brightness thing. Does that big screen get brighter and darker automatically?
Any additional options on yours?
Other alternative is the new Q7 black edition but it's an extra 2k down etc

There’s an auto brightness setting that has a life of its own. Full daylight or darkness it’s great, gloomy outside like just now it is almost invisible even when set to bright.
No additional options - they are pricey unless part of s bundle.
One other thing I like is there aren’t many around... Q5, Q7, X5, LR things are ten a penny round here. Only seen one other Touareg.

It’s a bit odd that - I’ve never seen one on the road but the old one is pretty common. I half-heartedly looked at it (wife has.a Tiguan which has been great) but just thought it would be a pain in car parks etc.

What's the standard stereo like? I've been spoilt with toys in my current S5 so it's going to be a bugger moving to something else.

To my ears pretty decent. I’ve not had an Audi but previously Merc and BMW and it’s better than they were.
