A good pal is going to change his Golf for a newer Audi.

I am considering buying it from him hopefully at 'mates rates'...

It is a 2015 Golf 1.6TDi 5 door Match with the 105BHP ( to be confirmed !) engine, with about 52,000 miles.

I currently have a 2010 facelift Volvo C30 1.6D Drive-E R-design that replaced my previous Alfa 156 150 JTDM 150 ( remapped to 185BHP).
I bought my Volvo with 33,000 on it a year ago, it now has 54,000 , mostly motorway commute miles.
I bought the Volvo for several reasons : low VED £30 compared to the Alfa's £300 plus, better mpg was 'promised ', and running a more modern and hopefully cheaper to maintain car than the Alfa ( which I really really liked !!)

The research promised better mpg than the average 'actual' 42 mpg I was getting from the Alfa, which was, as mentioned, remapped to 190 BHP. The Volvo was 'supposed' to get over 50 mpg, nearer 55 or so I was lead to believe....

After running the Volvo for a month in standard 109BHP form, I decided that it needed a bit more power for the motorway hills to work, so I had a Bluespark tuning box kit fitted, (raising the BHP from 109-139 and torque from 240-286)
The Tuning box was left on the standard setting, ie mid position, for a 'bit of both' economy and power.

This made the car fine for what I needed, but however I drive it, it seems to be limited to between 42-45 mpg, which was what the car was doing in standard 109 BHP form.

So...after that preamble...

I wonder if anyone has experience of the Golf detailed above, and what 'real life' mpg I would expect with the standard 105BHP engine.
Bear in mind that I do about 70 miles per day, mostly at 80 leptons or so, and work late shifts so not stuck in traffic much at all.
Almost no 'city' driving as such.

I do not drive with a heavy right foot, but do 'make progress' as they say. I rarely use full throttle for example !

Any advice on the Golf would be welcome.

Up until now my pal ( who has had the car from 8K-current 52K) has said it has been very reliable.

With the mileage I do ( currently about 20,000 a year ) are there issues I should be concerned about if I do buy it from him ?

Apologies for the rather long post !

I looked into this car but instead bought a 66 match 1.4 petrol with better break hp. Very pleased with it except for the fact the adaptive cruise control is not working and the main dealer re-fitted a new door and the seals are not done properly. Currently stuck in Negotiations with Kings Lynn Volkswagen dealership and Inchcape in Chester, via VW customer services, to get someone to fix it under warranty. It’s been two months now! After test driving loads of TDI and Petrol versions, I came to the conclusion that the petrol was such a nicer drive, It was worth the increased fuel costs. On average the petrol is supposed to do about 55-ish, my reality it is 40 so I should imagine that in real life the diesel 1.6 will take you to about 50 to 60. Good luck with it
