I've just chopped in my old Legacy for a 12 plate, low mileage one of these.

I had one around 6 years ago and recall it being quite economical for a heavy AWD estate.

So far I seem to be averaging around mid 30's mixed driving, which is not impressive and seems to be a lot less than I used to get from my previous one.

Is this fairly typical or is there an issue which requires investigation?

It's not that much better than the old Leggy, and that was a petrol engine

Cheers

I have a 2015 which is the last of the B8-8.5 which I got 3 years ago, it had 4500 miles when I bought it and although 18 months old it was practically new. I wanted to avoid the B9 due to the newer engine being the 1.9 which is electronically controlled.
Overall I have been getting 43mpg, my journeys are mixed, my office is only 2.5 miles from home and day time involves mainly A roads and towns with some motorways. Most weekends I travel from the New Forest to Bridport which is 120ish return trip but lots of country lanes in between. I cover around 18000 miles a year. I only use Shall V power diesel and get 430-460 miles per tank. I must also point out that I have never accepted the emissions update and make sure Audi know this whenever in for a service, I would not trust the update, however a do trust an old 2.0 diesel chugger which has been used in many cars over the years.
I was getting better mpg in my previous golf gt tdi but the allroad is heavy.

Many thanks for these comments/observation, much appreciated.

The emissions update point is an interesting one as I don't know whether mine has received it and, like you, I would never have accepted it.

I'll see how it goes as I've only had it for a week. One thing is it's a lot more economical than my old 2.0 petrol Legacy which was a much lighter car and only managed around 30mpg day in and day out.

What persuaded me back into an Allroad (aside from Subaru losing their way) is a friend who has one with 165k miles on and it drives like a new car - they certainly seem to handle high mileage very well.

Class action October update from solicitors...

"Following the Pre Trial Review (PTR) on Friday I’d like to update you on the development in the claim and put into context anything you may have read in the newspapers over the weekend.

At the PTR we explained to the Court why we think the ‘fix’ VW applied to affected vehicles is itself a ‘defeat device’. In other words, we think VW has cheated on the fix too.

We say this because it appears that VW fixed the vehicles so that NOx emissions now reference a ‘Thermal Window’. When fixed vehicles operate in this ‘Thermal Window’ they will emit low levels of NOx so that a fixed vehicle will pass the emissions tests. But this only occurs when the air temperature is between 15 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius. Outside of this Thermal Window, the vehicles will emit progressively higher NOx limits, which we say will breach EU emissions laws.

Put plainly, we say that a fixed vehicle will still, in certain conditions, breach EU emissions regulations.

About 70% of car journeys in the UK will be made on days where the temperature is outside of the Thermal Window. When this is the case, your fixed vehicle will still be emitting more NOx than EU emissions regulations allow.

We say VW did not make clear to regulators, the UK government, or you, that the fix operated in this way.

We think VW need to come clean and explain what they have done, and at Court on Friday, VW agreed to provide responses to the questions we've been asking about the Thermal Window. You can find more information here. We’ll keep you informed in future updates."
