Hi All,
Bit of a strange one.

Recently took place in an Autosolo in my 2015 Golf R manual. I was sharing my car with a friend.

Whilst on a course, instead of changing up to third for a faster section he kept it in second. In turn the car hit red line and sat there for a good couple of seconds. As we stopped at the next stop box the car was engulfed with a plume of white/grey smoke from the exhaust. Needless to say we backed off and finished the course gently!

Car was running fine, no engine light. So we decided to finish the day and did another 8 runs with no issue. Obviously changing up to 3rd from now on! laugh

Any idea on what caused this? The car seems absolutely fine now. Was running on 99 V Power and kept a good eye on the Oil temp which didn’t exceed 115 degrees whilst on course.

Car is on 67000 miles with a full VW Service history.

Thanks.

White smoke is usually caused by coolant entering the combustion chamber. I’d do a check for hydrocarbons in your coolant, then probably a compression check on each cylinder.

Thanks, I think it was white smoke, however when we stopped someone said they saw black smoke. So unsure.... the Coolant Level has not changed and is still on the max level.
